Handy Herbs and Natural Plants
Well, it is that time of year again, when the days grow longer and
Old Tiller is looked at with a new eye. I have got my garden laid
out (mentally, at least), and will be adding pictures in the next
few days.

In this section we will be getting at one of the main points of
this site; listing 'domesticated' and wild growing plants that can
be harvested, not just for food but for a variety of other
purposes as well.

It will take some time to get everything laid out properly, and we
will be adding plants as we go along in three main categories;

Garden Vegetables

Herbs (This will cover both Garden and Wild                 Forage
Herbs)

Wild Forage Plants

Fruits
Yarrow is an odd plant - it grows nearly everywhere on the North
American continent, and across the world. As with many of the
herbs we are learning about, Yarrow can be used for various
medicinal uses, and may be used as food as well. Also, it's leaves
will speed the composting process in a compost pile.

It should be planted with caution, and treated with care because it
can spread rapidly - but a plant or two in your vegetable and herb
garden will help the garden.

Yarrow repels certain insects, and the secretions from it's root
system actively aids many other plants, making herbs in particular
healthier, and more robust in flavor.

Just take care in cutting the plants back, and when you till the
next year you will be tilling the old years root system into the
general soil, even more ready for the year to come!
